Canardo premières enquêtes - a comicreview

Sokal conceived at the age of 20 the drunken duck Inspector Canardo. ‘Premières enqueêtes', which was released in 1979 in the ‘a suivre’ magazines. In these stories, Canardo tries to solve various crimes, often being a victim of figures that use him for their own (political) gain. Although all these short comics are self-contained stories, there is a chronological order in the development of this ducks, that is a cross between Philip Marlowe and Donald Duck, character. There is just so much a human ..., eh duck can handle, and Canardo is looking for his salvation in a bottle. This can only result in one thing ... but I do not feel that Sokal is waving an reprimanding finger.

I wondered what draws me to this duck, you’d think he is a bit of a looser. He tries to do his job as well as he can and tries to get his life on track, but he only gets setbacks. No wonder he is seeking refuge in alcohol and that all his friends appear to be in the cafe 24 hours a day, of course, does not help either. Nevertheless, he never is tempted to go bad or a even take revenge. This I must admire. I have never felt so attracted to the standard heroes who do not have any bad qualities, so I think this is why I find duck so sympathetic.
